Live at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool
January 27, 2004
Traditional, words by Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly)
Tabbed by Patrick Ferris
----------------------------------------------------

This song is similar to Leadbelly's rendition of "Boll Weevil," which the White Stripes have been
covering live since 2001. "De Ballit of de Boll Weevil" is not officially attributed to any artist.
The title's spelling is reminiscent of the songs of blackface minstrels, who impersonated a Southern black dialect.

VERSE 1: P.M.
F5
You may talk about the latest

The latest of your home
    Bb5
But these boll weevils
                       F5
They will rob you of a home
                       C5
They all lookin' for a home
                       F5
They all lookin' for a home

VERSE 2:
Well, the first time I seen a boll weevil
He was sittin' on the square
The next time I seen a boll weevil
He had his whole family there
They was lookin' for a home
They was lookin' for a home
Alright, Meg!

CHORUS:
                       Bb5
They was lookin' for a home
                       F5
They was lookin' for a home
                       C5
They was lookin' for a home
                       F5
They was lookin' for a home

Yeah!

VERSE 3:
Well, the farmer, he took the boll weevil
And put him in the sand
The boll weevil said to the farmer
"You treat me just like a man
And I will have a home
I will have a home"

VERSE 4:
The old lady said to the old man
"I'm tryin' my level best
To keep these boll weevils
Out of my brand new cotton dress
'Cause it's full of holes
Yeah, it's full of holes

VERSE 5:
The old man said to the old lady
"What do you think of that?
These boll weevils
Got into my brand new Stetson hat
And it’s full of holes
Ah, it’s full of holes
Alright, Meg!

CHORUS:
             Bb5
It's full of holes
                   F5
Yeah, it's full of holes
                   C5
Well, it's full of holes
                   F5
Yeah, it's full of holes

Alright!

Alright, this is the last verse of the last song of the night

Hey, hey

This verse is about myself, and I'm sorry about that

But it's ok, when I'm done singin' it I hope every one of you here

Will sing along with me and my sister on "He's lookin' for a home," ok?

Then you'll be happy, I'll be happy, and Lord knows Meg'll be happy

VERSE 5: P.M.
